Brian’s connection with Misfits Jiu Jitsu goes back nearly two decades, long before the gym ever existed. He met the owner, Brad, the way a lot of lifelong friendships start. Beating the crap out of each other on a regular basis. They started training Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai together around 2010, putting in years of late nights, bruises, sore joints, and plenty of after-training beers.
Over the years that friendship stuck, and No Shelf Life has had a front-row seat watching Brad turn a passion for training into what Misfits Jiu Jitsu is today. What started as a small group of people who just wanted to get better became a gym built on strong technique, a welcoming atmosphere, and a crew of people who genuinely want to see each other improve.
Misfits isn’t just a place to work out. It’s a community built around discipline, respect, and the idea that anyone, beginner or experienced, should feel comfortable stepping on the mat and learning something new. The gym offers Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and training for all levels, with a focus on doing things the right way, building real skill, and keeping the kind of energy that makes people want to keep showing up.
That mindset fits naturally with the No Shelf Life philosophy. Staying in motion. Continuing to learn. Refusing to live like
there’s an expiration date on growth, strength, or stepping into something that makes you uncomfortable.
Places like this keep people moving.
They keep people sharp.
And they keep people connected.
Brian is proud of the long history he has with Brad, and proud to have Misfits Jiu Jitsu as part of the Crew.
If you’re anywhere near the area and have ever thought about trying Jiu Jitsu, this is the place to start.
